About Chinese Medicine Today

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) heritage extends more than 5000 years using a basis of treating the original cause not just the symptom. During this time a system of medical care was developed to keep society healthy long before modern medical techniques were available. Today this ancient and effective form of medicine still holds a pivotal role in China within a holistic approach to healthcare.

This can be clearly seen where today Chinese medical graduates practice a totally holistic and patient centred approach to healthcare.  University medical schools and hospitals in China use a combined treatment choice approach. For example, doctors may use surgery, pharmaceuticals or TCM as holistically required.

Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture are now used by many people in the UK to manage medical problems. Other ways to maintain a healthy, holistic well being include practices such as Tai Chi, Martial Arts/Kung Fu, Yoga and Ayurveda. Diet also plays an important role in continued well being, health and general fitness. The Vegan, Vegetarian or Gluten free diets provide a holistic approach concerning what we take into our bodies, which can be enhanced with Chinese medicine concept and Chinese medicinal diet. Avoiding processed foods and choosing ‘Soil Association’ accredited organic produce will also help your healthy lifestyle.

Acupuncture & Chinese medicine …… how could it help me?

Traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture has been practised in China for thousands of years. Today Chinese medical students study these practices at Medical School as they remain a critical part of modern healthcare in China.

The reason for this that western healthcare still does not have all the answers. Many conditions such as Chronic Muscular and Nerve Pain, Infertility and Irritable Bowel are often problems which patients are left without a satisfactory outcome. Chronic pain, for example can lead to life of where only strong pain killers are prescribed as a potentially harmful long term solution.

Looking at the problem holistically allows for a fresh diagnostic approach. Following diagnosis acupuncture or Chinese medicine treatment can be prescribed leading to a long term resolution.
